Guess How Much I Love You – Interactive Episodes for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Our family loves the classic Guess How Much I Love You story by Sam McBratney. This is a lovely story about the love between a father and his son. I love the playfulness of the story, and the fact that it is about a father. For some reason, children’s stories seem to often feature only the mother and children with the father frequently missing. Anyways, I can easily recite this from memory due to the many, many readings to my son. I always decided to have M’s aunt record this story in the Hallmark recordable book so that he could listen to her read the story. (This is a wonderful way of keeping far away loved ones near and present for young children). Even though you can do this easily with many e-books, there is something quite wonderful and tactile about physical books. You may have noticed I don’t post that frequently about e-books even though there are deals all the time. I only post about the ones I really think are interesting and exceptionally good, but I am in the firm camp of not using the iPad for reading books because I think reading is best when you can physically touch paper and allow your imagination come alive with the storytelling.

Anyways, you might not be aware that Disney developed a television program based on this book. Today’s app deal is normally $2.99 and includes 2 interactive episodes of the television show with games and puzzles to play. This might be fun for your LO if they are are fond of Little Nutbrown Hare like mine was.

PlaySquare presents WordWorld’s Happy Birthday Dog for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

PlaySquare is currently featuring their first app offering in what they call touchable television for free download for a limited time. I picked up this app earlier this summer when they last featured it for free download. I am a huge fan of Word World which is one of the few kids’ TV offerings that is truly educational to its roots.  I love the way that they integrate letter recognition, phonemic awareness, blending, word families/rhyming, and spelling into a pretty entertaining program. Good animation, creative storytelling and catchy songs that will engage your LO. I have absolutely no problem with my LO watching this show.

This app features the episode where Dog celebrates his birthday. They have done such a good job of creating an interactive experience. I am sure that your LO will really enjoy exploring…

Pokémon TV – free! March 10, 2013

Pokémon TV for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

This is not a recommendation for Pokemon or to watch this show since there is plenty of educational entertainment for kids. This is just a fyi that this free app lets you watch Pokemon whenever you like as long as you have an internet connection. This is great for kids who love Pokemon. Hopefully, my son will remain blissfully unaware of Pokemon for the time being and just think that it is something his cousins like to play.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally appisode for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Disney has just rolled out this “appisode” of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally which is coincidentally the only episode of the show that M likes because it features cars and racing. This is the first in a series of planned appisodes from Disney. This app has more than 20 interactive features to explore and play throughout this episode. This is a very interesting and innovative take bringing interactivity to a television show. This is currently being offered for free download as part of their roll-out. I suspect that these apps will likely be priced in the $2.99 to $4.99 range in the future.

Recommended for ages 3 to 6.

Kids.Woot® : One Day, You’ll Understand™.

Awesome deal from kids.woot for a 14 DVD set of Word World. This is by far one of my absolute favorite children’s television programs. I love the way that they integrate letter recognition, phonemic awareness, blending, word families/rhyming, and spelling into a pretty entertaining program. Good animation, creative storytelling and catchy songs that will engage your LO. The cost plus shipping works out to be less than $4 a DVD. What a deal!

Highly recommended for older toddlers through K. Even if you don’t buy this set, I highly recommend this PBS program which airs daily on weekdays.
