ThUMP Ultimate Calculus and Algebra Training for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Here’s a math app for older kids for you to check out. This app is designed for pre-calculus math skills and geared to high school students or accelerated middle schoolers. The app is a bit more fun than other math practice apps out there for this age and this subject and worth checking out since it comes with 6 topics in the free version: Number skills, Exponents, Radicals, Basic Algebra, Equations and Inequalities, and Intermediate Algebra. You can purchase additional subjects for $0.99 each: Advanced Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.

I like that unlike a lot of apps out there, when you get the answer wrong, you do get immediate feedback. However, this app helps you figure out where you went wrong so that you can try again at solving the problem. The app doesn’t give you the right answer which is great because the best way to learn is to make mistakes and learn to fix them.. The quizzes in each subject do increase in difficulty.

Recommended for high school students or advanced middle school students.

Montessori Numbers – Math Activities for Kids for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

This is the first time this app has ever been offered for free. (Normally, $2.99) This is a top rated, award winning app that introduce young children to numbers and build number sense. I bought this app a long time ago when it was on sale. It is a pretty great introductory app that build on early math skills and can be used for a pretty long time as the quantities activity is really useful for teaching place value and grouping skills. This is especially useful when you just don’t feel like pulling out the linking cubes or cuisenaire rods.

Highly recommended for ages 3 to 7.

Geography Drive USA™ for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Spinlight’s Geography Drive USA ipad app is currently on sale for just $0.99 (normally $3.99). This is a really great US geography app that has won a lot of awards. Lots of fun to play as you travel across the United States earning credit to upgrade or trick out your ride or to take a flight to new locations. My 4 yo LO is obsessed with geography so I usually grab good ones when they pop up. This app is great since it blends both his love for geography and his love for cars. This is well worth the sale price and a good deal for the regular paid app price.

Highly recommended for grades 2 and up or can be used with younger children that are able to read.

AvatarBooks are free all week again. These are really fun e-storybooks where your child is the star.

AvatarBook PeterPan for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Just noticed this developer offering all their AvatarBook apps  for free download for iPad (2 iPhone apps available), but it ends today (supposedly was ending on 10/7, still available for free as of 10/11). Normally, $1.99 per book.

This is such a fun e-book concept. You snap a picture of your child’s face, and they can watch an e-book animation that features them starring as the main character in a classic children’s story.

Titles available include: Cinderella, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland (also available in Chinese & Japanese), Pinocchio, Red riding hood, Gulliver, Heidi, Children Songs (only okay, songs are a bit odd).

Recommended for toddlers through early elementary. Grab this before it is gone!
