Life at Warp Speed

Monster Physics for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Monster Physics is on sale right now 50% off. Normally, $1.99. This is another amazing edutainment app from one of my favorite developers who made one of my favorite math apps for kids, Rocket Math (http://wp.me/p1M41l-8i). This is a great app that teaches kids about the basics of physics is a really engaging way.

There are over 50 puzzle problems to solve. I really like how the play and solutions are open ended so that  you don’t have to solve it the exact same way every time. You get to design your own monster as well as the build feature which lets you build your own creations and put it into action. There are dozens upon dozens of parts to manipulate and build…

New LetsTans Premium for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

The full premium iPad version of LetsTans is available for free download for one day only in honor of its release in the iTunes store. I imagine the price will be at least $2.99 or higher based on the pricing of their deluxe version. This is a great app for puzzle lovers. Even though it is considered a “game,” I am a strong believer in tangrams as a learning tool to help children (and adults) develop spatial, crticial thinking, and problem solving skills. Even better, it gives children an intuitive sense of geometry. They are sharpening math and logic skills without even knowing it.

There are over 900 puzzles included in this app. More than enough to satisfy any puzzle lover. There are seven modes of play which increase in difficulty. And yes, there is a hint system in case you get stuck. If you miss out on this, LetsTans does have a few free lite versions available for download.

Recommended for 7 and up. Younger children can play this if they are adept at puzzles, but they will have to learn to manipulate the orientation of the shapes which can be a challenging skill to master.

Bugs and Numbers for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Bugs and Buttons for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Bugs and Bubbles for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

It has been awhile since I have had a chance to blog about any app deals. I am back with a fabulous deal. This is not a freebie today, but Little Bit Studio has discounted their award winning Bugs series of early math apps for the iPhone and iPad to $0.99 for a limited time (Normally, $2.99). This series of apps is stunning in its graphics and design. It is just visually so appealing. Don’t be alarmed by the bug theme, both girls and boys will enjoy these apps.

You will love the adaptive play which increases the difficulty level based on mastery of skills. There are 18 engaging games to play (translate “learning”), and achievement stickers are used to encourage and reward learning. I love that there are multiple user profiles which is wonderful when you have more than one child in the family. There are also 11 different language settings for you to use which includes both traditional and simplified Chinese.

What parent doesn’t groan when they contemplate drilling math skills? These apps covers basic counting to early fractions, currency, time, simple addition and subtraction, comparison, measurement, patterns, sequencing, sorting and problem solving. With these apps, math becomes a perfect blend of study and play. Just like Mary Poppins says, “A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down.”  If you loved the apps by Duck Duck Goose, you will love these apps by Little Bit Studio.

Recommended for ages 3 to 7.
