We are huge fans of Marble Math Junior by Artgig Studios ($1.99) over here at L@WS. It really makes it a lot of fun to practice math facts and mental math. It integrates a marble maze game with solving math problems. I really like that they will offer helps (hints) and also allow your child to replay the problem to solve it correctly. There are multiple levels of difficulty that you can set as your child masters various skills. This app is targeted for ages 5 to 8. My 3yo son can play this app when it is set to drag versus roll control of the marble so it is useful for younger children who are mastering basic math skills.
The game makes it fun with little animations and obstacles that your child can interact with as they roll or drag the marble around the maze. As you solve the problems, you earn credits towards unlocking new marbles to play. You can also set up multiple users to accommodate more than one learner.
I just noticed tonight that Marble Math ($1.99) is being offered for free download. The style of play is similar to Marble Math Junior, but tackles the following math skills:
- addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- adding and sequencing fractions with different denominators
- sequencing roman numerals
- sequencing decimals
- adding and subtracting negative integers
- adding US coins and notes
- comparing number values
- simplifying equations
Marble Math is designed for ages 9 to 12. I am really looking for to moving on to using Marble Math with my son when he is ready to move on from Marble Math Jr.
Highly recommended! Grab this while it is still free, but well worth the paid app price. This is as cheap as a pack of math flashcards, but it is so much more engaging to practice math this way. Excellent for use in homeschooling or gifted learners as well.
