Sprinkle: Water splashing fire fighting fun! for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Sprinkle is like a mash up of Angry Birds meets Where’s My Water meets firefighting. Sprinkle is a top rated, award winning physics style puzzle game. It is super fun to play and very challenging. You have to put out the fires as fast as you can and solve the puzzle before the fires (and random flaming cannon balls) burn out of control. Normally, this app is $1.99, but it is free right now for downloading. If you miss out, there is a free lite version available.

Recommended for ages 7 and up. Younger children can play if they are well versed at playing this type of game other wise they will become frustrated with how to solve more challenging levels. Don’t miss out on this one!

PlaySquare presents WordWorld’s Happy Birthday Dog for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

PlaySquare is currently featuring their first app offering in what they call touchable television for free download for a limited time. I picked up this app earlier this summer when they last featured it for free download. I am a huge fan of Word World which is one of the few kids’ TV offerings that is truly educational to its roots.  I love the way that they integrate letter recognition, phonemic awareness, blending, word families/rhyming, and spelling into a pretty entertaining program. Good animation, creative storytelling and catchy songs that will engage your LO. I have absolutely no problem with my LO watching this show.

This app features the episode where Dog celebrates his birthday. They have done such a good job of creating an interactive experience. I am sure that your LO will really enjoy exploring this app, and you will enjoy play blended with building early literacy skills.

Highly recommended for ages 2 to 6.

Geo Walk HD is free again for a limited time.

Life at Warp Speed

App Store – Geo Walk HD – 3D World Fact Book.

Today’s app shout out is for the Geo Walk HD for an iPad and iPhone. It is free right now. Normally it is $2.99. This app has sharp, brilliant HD quality images of amazing wonders of the world. You can filter out categories to narrow you exploration, see what is new to the “book”,  quiz your knowledge, or just randomly explore the globe. Every image has a blurb that helps your kid learn about what is so interesting about this wonder of the world.

It is a really great way to interest your kids in geography and the people, plants, animals and places that make up our world. I love the engaging interface. You can even add entries to your favorites for access later or for pulling out certain entries if your child is studying a specific area…

Wee Sing is free again for a limited time! Reblogging my previous post on this app. I noticed they dropped the paid app price to $2.99 which is still too expensive relative to other apps.

Life at Warp Speed

App Store – Wee Sing & Learn ABC.

From the well known Wee Sing music based learning products, Wee Sing & Learn ABC app is available for free download for a limited time. Normally, this app is $2.99. This app is produced by iStoryTime.

This app does a good job of creating an interactive beginning ABC learning app. You have the ABC song, a play along with the song, interactive ABC animal and musical instruments flashcards, and an explore the letter names. The app is pretty interactive and engaging. However, it is not worth a paid app price of $2.99. There are apps that are far cheaper or free that accomplish the same things although not necessarily all in the same app.

Recommended for ages 18 mos to 4 years. Grab this while it is free!

Maily: Your Kids’ First Email app – currently free August 17, 2012

Maily: Your Kids’ First Email for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

I am really in love with this new app developed by real life parents who wanted to create a kid AND parent-friendly email app. I am very pleased with the parental/administrative controls built into this app. They create a secure way for you to allow your child to send very fun email messages to a trusted list of people that you set up. You use your finger to write messages, color, and draw. You can personalize backgrounds, add photos, and add stamps to decorate your messages. I really like that you can approve messages before they are sent or received if you choose that setting. It is really nice that you can send your email to multiple recipients. The people that you okay for contact will be able to reply to the message with a kid-friendly Maily dashboard.

This IS the app that you have been waiting for. This is such a great way to allow your little ones to keep in touch with your loved ones via email. There are a few things that could be improved, but I imagine that those changes will be made over time. There are no intrusive ads or buy-ins right now. From what the developers say, anything like that will only show up in the parental dashboard which is password protected. They were intuitive enough to also include a demo video which logically, I didn’t watch before I started playing with the app. You can contact Maily through email (which so far, I can’t seem to add manually, but it work if you have them set up in your contacts on your iPad) or facebook (which I did not want to link for a variety of reasons).

Highly recommended for ages 4 and up. This is a gem!
