App Store – Preschool Game (Stickery).

Note: The developers have removed this app from the iTunes store when I checked on 2/28/12. From what I can tell they are redeveloping the concepts of this app into “mini” versions of the app. The first is called Mermaid Waters. Click here

Today’s app shout-0ut is for the Stickery app for iPad and iPhone which is currently free. This preschool app was developed in collaboration with Zeum, the children’s art museum in San Francisco. The pop artwork design reminded me strongly of the animation style of the Powerpuff Girls.

The premise of the app is for your little one to rescue the lost stickers of the Land of Stickery by saving stickers by answering questions correctly. It is an interesting take on the normal right/wrong answer paradigm shifting it to a fairy tale motif. Your preschooler will be drawn into playing the intrepid hero/heroine rescuing stickers from the naughty witch who made all the stickers disappear from the Land of Stickery.

The learning concepts are tailored to the age of your preschooler and cover these basic math and language arts skills:

✭ Sizes
✭ Colors
✭ Number recognition
✭ Counting: one-to-one object matching
✭ Alphabet recognition
✭ Basic Vocabulary
✭ Starting letters for common words

This the the first in a planned series of Stickery apps which I will be interested to see how they develop this series. I like the embedded reporting feature that you can sign up for that sends you reports on your child’s progress in their app play.

Highly recommended for preschoolers up to Kindergarten.
