App Store – ESV Bible for BibleReader.

Just wanted to give a shout out for the ESV Bible for Bible Reader app by Olive Tree that is normally $9.99 but is now available for free download. This is the version that my church is using. This particular app is pretty useful if you are using your iPad or iPhone at church or for Bible study. You can highlight or bookmark passages and write notes and sync it with another device. Not bad since it is free if you are not ready to shell out $10 to $40 for more high functioning Bible apps or not prepared to buy a hardcover copy of ESV before checking it out first.

App Store – Brick Breaker Escape! HD.

Remember spending hours playing Breakout on the old Atari back in the day when you didn’t have to worry about making dinner, cubicle politics, and paying the mortgage? Brick Breaker Escape is essentially Breakout for the next gen. Love the simple game play with great graphics and little surprise twists to the game play.

Normally, this is a paid app for $2.99 with a free lite version available. You can download it now for a limited time for free! Download it for yourself or your kids and introduce them to a classic favorite.

Kids.Woot® : One Day, You’ll Understand™.

Awesome deal from kids.woot for a 14 DVD set of Word World. This is by far one of my absolute favorite children’s television programs. I love the way that they integrate letter recognition, phonemic awareness, blending, word families/rhyming, and spelling into a pretty entertaining program. Good animation, creative storytelling and catchy songs that will engage your LO. The cost plus shipping works out to be less than $4 a DVD. What a deal!

Highly recommended for older toddlers through K. Even if you don’t buy this set, I highly recommend this PBS program which airs daily on weekdays.

SuperApple Ni Hao Kai-Lan app – Free for Limited Time September 17, 2011

Filed under: Kids — lifeatwarpspeed @ 11:42 pm

App Store – SupperApple.

Today’s app shout out is for Super Apple app for iPad and iPhone. This app is normally $2.99 (grossly overpriced) and is currently featured for free. I am pretty sure that it is priced this way because it features Kai-Lan from Ni Hao, Kai-Lan! Since it is free right now, it is worth the download.

This is a basic counting and color/object recognition game. The player tilts back and forth in order to make Kai-Lan catch apples that Ho Ho drops down from the tree. There are increasing levels of difficulty as Kai-Lan must catch combinations of different colored apples, avoid half eaten apples and time challenges.

Recommended for older toddlers and preschoolers.

Lil Sub for iPad on the iTunes App Store.

Another app shout out today for Lil Sub app for the iPad (normally $1.99). This very cute little app simulates a submarine exploring the underwater world. You come across all sorts of interesting sea creatures in your exploration. The app is designed to engage babies and toddlers in cause and effect play with cute graphics and a variety of songs. Normally a paid app, this is available for a limited time for free download.

Recommended for babies and toddlers.

Update: Lil Sub has been updated since I posted this review. They have introduced a lot more interactivity and control over the objects you explore with more sounds and effects. Also, there are a lot more objects to discover. They have also added a learn to spell feature which introduces words and ocean themed objects. You pop the letters of the words of the objects that appear to hear the word spelled.
